(Allendale, Mich.) The Cornerstone University Men's Track & Field team opened the 2013-2014 season with two freshman records and a school record the Grand Valley State Early Bird meet.

Ross Raymond ended the 2013 outdoor campaign breaking the school record in the shot put. In his first event of the new school year he added nearly four feet to his indoor school record. Raymond's 49' 4.25" toss erased his old mark of 45' 7.25" and placed second. Gabe Turner opened his collegiate career with a freshman record in the shot put. His mark of 45' 2.5" added over  a foot to the old record of 43' 11.75" set by Raymond in 2012.

William Russell also had a great debut. The freshman from Ontario, Canada won the 400 meters in 49.19, bettering the CU freshman record of 49.49 set by Zach Yeo in 2010. The time was also under the NAIA provision qualifying standard.

Logan Norton won the pole vault, clearing 13' 11.25".

The 5,000 meters proved to be one of the most exciting events of the evening as CU alum, Zach Ripley won in 14:17.68. CU seniors, Jared Courtright (14:47.66) and Cody Risch, (14:03.53) running unattached while waiting to use their last seasons of outdoor eligibility, took third and tenth.
