(Gulf Shores, Ala.) The opening day of the 2014 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships produced great results for Cornerstone's women. Junior, Lindsay Lipa earned All-America honors in the long jump while classmate, Brittany Green finished the day leading the heptathlon.

The first four events of the heptathlon started the Championships. Green opened running 14.86 in the 100 meter hurdles, which placed second in the field of sixteen and earned 860 points. Next, in the high jump, Brittany cleared a new best, 5-7.25, also second best in the field and worth 867 points. On her second attempt in the shot put, Green broke the school record of 41-8.5 set three weeks ago by Haley Russell. Green's mark of 42-2.75 topped the field by over two feet adding 719 more points. Her day concluded with the 200 meters where she clocked a new best time of 25.48 again second best in the competition and 843 more points.

With the long jump, javelin and 800 meters remaining for Friday, Green's combined score of 3289 gave her a 148 point lead over Karen Huston of Northwestern, IA.

In the final field event of the day, Lindsay Lipa entered the long jump seeded 25th in the field of 25. Jumping in the first of three flights, Lipa's second attempt was long, but with her toe just over then end of the foul board. Her third jump measured 17-9.75, remarkable second in her flight. In the second flight only one competitor jumped farther, putting Lipa third. To make the finals, Lipa needed to be in the top nine after the third flight. Three more jumpers passed her making Lipa sixth with three more attempts in the finals.

Jumping in reverse order, ninth first and first place last, Hutson flew to second place in the fourth round sailing 19-1.25. Next Devinn Roland of Xavier-Louisiana moved up to fourth with a leap of 18-7. By the time Lindsay jumped she'd slipped to eighth place. Another foul in the fourth round left her vulnerable to losing another spot. In the fifth round, Lipa improved to 18-0 giving her just over an inch on Stacia Murray of Indiana Tech in ninth. In the last round, Murray did not improve, giving Lipa at least eighth and guaranteeing an All-America plaque. On her final jump, Lipa powered down the runway, hit the board squarely and landed in the sand 18-4.5 away. Her new best mark moved her to fifth for the moment. The two women she passed failed to improve giving Lipa outdoor All-America status in the long jump to match her All-America performance in the event from the 2014 indoor season.

Cornerstone competed in one running event, the 4 x 800 meter relay. Trinity Hulst, Cathy Coryell, Audrey Tremaine and Kaitlyn Bronkema combined to run 9:45.95 and finished twenty-third.
