[Men's Cross Country] Falland first at Calvin

Comments

(Grand Rapids, Mich.) Cornerstone senior, Louis Falland cruised to a convincing win at the Knight Invitational hosted by Calvin College. The overnight rain and the preceding women's race turned sections of the 8 kilometer course in to slick mud, slowing times at the usually fast Gainey Athletic Complex.

Running with the leaders from the start, Falland moved to the front after three miles and held the lead to the finish, winning by six seconds in 25:06. The only real drama in the race came when the lead vehicle got stuck twice and required the help of spectators to get it moving before the runners caught up.

Senior, Jared Holmberg paced a pair of freshmen. Holmburg placed 87th in 27:22 with Kevin Vroegh (98th / 27:30) and Brent Dunn (109th / 27:39) close behind.  Sophomore, Jacob Benson completed the team scoring taking 156th in 28:19.

Calvin won with 55 points ahead of two top ranked NAIA teams – St. Francis (Ill) with 79 and Aquinas at 109. Cornerstone took eleventh with 303 points.
