Comments

(Upland, Ind.) The Golden Eagles earned top-three finishes ten events, winning three, breaking two school records and posting six NAIA national qualifying marks at the Taylor University Invitational.

Juniors, Brittany Green and Haley Russell got things started by placing second and fourth in the shot put. Green added over a foot to her school record set last week eclipsing the NAIA automatic qualifying standard with a mark of 43-2.25. Russell's 40-9.5 effort was a season best for her.  In the 20 pound weight throw, Russell finished second with a personal best of 53-1.5, earning her first NAIA qualifying mark in the event.

Green and Anita Souza breezed through the prelims in the 55 meter hurdles. In the finals, Souza won in 8.23 with Green third in 8.54. Souza's time broke the CU school record of 8.44 set in 2005 by Nicole Daniels. Anita bettered the NAIA automatic qualifying standard and Green was under the provisional qualifying time.

In the rarely contested 4 x 200 meter relay, Green joined Lindsay Lipa, Rachel Skinner and Kaitlyn Bronkema finishing second in a new school record time of 1:47.18. The old mark stood since 2002 and was run by Emily Romberger, Audrey VanderGalien, Jen DeGroot and Christie Johnson.

Lipa finished second in the 400 meters, running 1:01.82 and Bronkema won the 600 meters leading wire to wire in a PR 1:40.90. Lyndee Sayers moved from sixth to second, also setting a new personal best of 1:42.13.

In the 3,000 meters, Kaylee Carew was third with a PR of 10:48.23 and CallyAnne Wyma finished one spot back also improving her best time to 11:07.56.

The distance medley relay entered the meet expecting to hit the NAIA automatic qualifying time of 12:36.0. The three other teams in the race offered no competition as Trinity Hulst, Souza, Cathy Coryell and Julie Oosterhouse lapped the field twice, winning by over 90 seconds and getting the national qualifier in 12:30.79.

Lipa, Bronkema, Sayers and Larissa Hampton ended the day taking second in the 4 x 400 meter relay in 4:03.56.
