Comments

(Adrian, Mich.)  Cornerstone Women took third at the 2014 Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Nine women scored in two or more events, Julie Oosterhouse and Brittany Green each scored 21 points.

Green bettered the NAIA automatic qualifying standards in three events in the two-day competition. The junior from Ohio won the long jump in a school record 18-11.25. The old mark of 18-8.5 was set by Cathi Velzen in 2005. Her personal best of 5-6 placed third in the high jump. A 14.83 PR in the 100 meter gave her three NAIA automatic qualifying performances, but placed just eighth in the highly competitive WHAC. Green also took fifth in shot put with a mark of 41-3 and 96-5 in the javelin.

Classmate, Oosterhouse anchored the 4 x 800 meter relay to third in 9:30.62 on Thursday night. Friday she waged a homestretch duel with Indiana Tech's Cherie Gaines, coming up 2/100th of one second short. Her time of 4:45.40 took five seconds off her personal best.  Trinity Hulst (4:58.11) and Audrey Tremaine (5:03.65) scored in fifth and sixth. The pair met again in the 800, but Oosterhouse dropped the field in the second lap to win the event for the third consecutive year. Her time of 2:16.15 broke the meet record.

Adding to Green's efforts in the jumps, Tess Odegard took third in the high jump, clearing 5-3. Lindsay Lipa was sixth in the long jump with a mark of 17-9.75. She also took sixth in the triple jump, going 35-6.

Rachel Skinner added three feet to Green's freshman record taking second in the javelin with a throw of 105-3.

The distance women contributed 26 points in the 10,000 meters, 5,000 meters and 3,000 meter steeplechase. Thursday night, CallyAnne Wyma took the lead with three laps to go in the 10,000 to win in a PR 40:10.04. Sydney Tremaine lowered her best to 40:43.80 in sixth and senior Erin Laplander ran a new best in her final WHAC 10k finishing eighth in 42:04.72. Friday in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Kayla Ovokaitys (12:32.06) and Monica Lawrence (13:04.71) finished fifth and sixth both in personal best times.  In the final distance event, CU swept third through fifth with Wyma (18:53.17), Hulst (19:01.15) and Cathy Coryell (19:07.99).

Oosterhouse joined Lipa, Lyndee Sayers and Larissa Hampton to take third in the 4 x 400 meter relay in 4:01.14.

Indiana Tech continued their dominance of the WHAC, winning the team title with 249 points. Host, Siena Heights took second with 157 followed by Cornerstone with 119, Aquinas at 84, Davenport with 38 and Concordia's 3 points.
